Diet For Heart Attack Victims

February: American Heart Month

How healthy is your heartc Do you know all the facts about heart diseasec Well, now is the time to learn. Find out the biggest killer of women in America and how to change your diet so that you don't become a victim.

Since 1963, the president of the United States has declared February American Heart Month and what better reason than a presidential decree to start eating healthierc Heart-healthy foods are ones that lower your bad cholesterol and blood pressure, but are high in protein and other nutrients. Heart disease claims hundreds of thousands of lives every year, but there are ways to prevent becoming a victim. Take this opportunity to educate yourself so that you can tell the ones you love.

Pop Quiz: What's the number one killer of women in America

A. Stroke
B. Breast Cancer
C. Heart Disease
D. Lung Cancer

Answer:

D. Heart Disease - kills 356,000 women every year
Stroke - kills 100,000 women every year
Lung Cancer - kills 68,000 women every year
Breast Cancer - kills 42,000 women every year

Surprised by the statisticsc Unfortunately, so are many other women, which is why the National Heart, Lungs and Blood Institute (NHLBI) started the Heart Truth campaign to raise awareness about women and heart disease. For so long, heart disease was thought of as a "man's issue" and women did not consider themselves at risk. To combat this stereotype, the NHLBI started the Red Dress Project that raises money for the Heart Truth campaign through fundraisers and the Red Dress pins. The dress is meant to make heart disease a women's issue through the unique, attention-grabbing symbol. Click here for more information about the Red Dress Project.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
How can I get a menu plan for a person who has had a heart attack?
I am looking to do a diet, but it was suggested to follow a diet plan for a heart attack victim.
    • ANSWER:
I'd suggest getting your doctor of cardiologist hook you up with a dietician or nutritionist.
  2. QUESTION:
Am I having a heart attack?
I know, it's ridiculous to ask here. But hear me out.
I'm 22, female, ex-smoker, low blood pressure. Pretty much the opposite of a normal victim.
4 or 5 hours ago I started getting a feeling of intense pressure in my chest. Like someone is trying to reach through my breast bone. I took some pepto and went on. Then pain in my left shoulder, then my elbow, and now my wrist. It also feels like my teeth are trying to pop out on the left side
My heart rate was around 100 (85-95 is normal for me) a few hours ago, and now is 110.
It's coming and going. if I rest it feels better, but if I so much as try to get up to get a glass of water I can barely breath and the pain is almost unbearable.
I am recovered from anorexia, started eating normally about 8 months ago. During that period I did abuse drugs such as ephedra and other diet pills. I'm already suffering from ulcer and severe anemia due to that time.
I'm currently taking Zantac for my stomach, and Septra for a UTI
I tend to be a bit of a hypochondriac and keep convincing myself that it's just this or that. Normally someone is home to talk to but the boyfriend is working overnights and my other roommate is gone for the night. No one will be home until 5pm tomorrow
Just to add: It's a 30 dollar cab ride to the hospital and I can barely afford rent. I can see a doctor tomorrow if I have to but I don't want to go to the ER for something dumb
    SnuffySmith
I forgot about that, but now that you mention it it is a possible side effect of the septra. I still had some ativan so I just took one. I'm small so it doesn't take very long to take effect. Hopefully that's all it is.
Ok, I feel like an idiot now. It was just anxiety I guess. My shoulder is still killing me but an icepack is helping.
    • ANSWER:
Sounds like an anxiety attack mixed with your ulcer being worse and a possible reaction to the antibiotics. Drink lots of water and take your mind off it. (I know that probably is very hard). You could go to the ER and tell them you are having chest pain. They will take you right in.
  3. QUESTION:
    Why not become a vegetarian?
    ENVIRONMENTAL
Many often say, you cant be a environmentalist without being a vegan/vegetarian. This is because the demand of poultry and meat is increasing which increases the amount of chickens and cows which increases the amount of factory farming which increases the amount of co2 in the atmosphere. In addition, cows that are used for meat and dairy release major quantities of methane into the atmosphere which statistics show causes 13 %, yes 13 % of global warming. People would say that being a vegetarian would only increase the amount of methane that is released into the atmosphere since less cows are being killed, but it is the other way around because there is less demand for meat/dairy from cows, thus a decreased amount of cows.
    RELIGOUS
many religous views support the decisions of becoming vegetarians such as judaism, christianity, greek and roman thought, islam, buddhism, hinduism, however do not prohibit the consumption of meat
    ECONOMICAL
Massive reductions in meat consumption in industrial nations will ease their health care burden while improving public health; declining livestock herds will take pressure off rangelands and grainlands, allowing the agricultural resource base to rejuvenate. As populations grow, lowering meat consumption worldwide will allow more efficient use of declining per capita land and water resources, while at the same time making grain more affordable to the world's chronically hungry.
    HEALTH
Becoming a vegetarian/vegan will reduce the chance of getting heart disease and a heart attack greatly, and also reduces the chance of one getting diabeties, Not only that, but help reduce or prevent obesity. In addition, becoming a vegetarian will also reduce chances of getting the following cancers: cerebrovascular disease, stomach cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, and prostate cancer. And there are meat alternatives for humans with plenty of nutrients such as tofu, beans, nuts, veggie meat, and much more so dont answer with that bs.
    ETHICAL
Overall, animals that are in the meat/dairy industry are treated terribly and i mean terribly! They are often abused by the people who work there, forced into small areas, never get to see outdoors, slaughtered in the most INhumane ever, seperated from their children who are slaughtered, and are practically treated like Jews that were victims of Hitler or African American slaves-- but even worse. Many people do not believe that cows, chickens, turkeys, pigs, or sheep can feel the same as us humans do, but that is just an utter ignorant lie. Also, people say that they are dumb animals so they dont really matter, but believe or not pigs are smarter than the average dog. Not enough for you, watch this documentary "Earthlings": www documentarywire com/earthlings
    TIPS BEFORE ANSWERING
Dont answer with because they taste good because there are many meat alternatives for vegetarian dishes that taste exactly taste like meat but even better such as tofu or veggie burgers
Dont answer with I am a peta terrorist because I do not even support peta
Dont answer with God intended us to eat animals because they are made out of meat because then you would be supporting cannibalism
Dont answer with its not healthy because becoming a vegetarian is much healthier than being a meat eater with a well balanced diet.
unlike animals who eat other animals, we have a choice of different foods other than meat since humans are omnivores. In addition, the animals that eat other animals dont torture them for their whole lives like us humans do.
im not preaching!!! how is informing facts anything like preaching?
    • ANSWER:
Are you acquainted with the phrase "Preaching to the choir"?
  4. QUESTION:
Why are fat people okay with being fat?
It seems like all the fat people I know don't really care to do anything about their bodies. They go on diets for one day and quit - I invite them kaying and running with me, but then they end up canceling plans and making excuses for themselves. I try to be supportive but they lack motivation. Does a heart attack or stroke not scare them? If you really want to lose weight, you will - no excuses! Don't they wake up in the morning and see how fat they are? How come they arn't disgusted by this? I'm really sick and tired of trying to support people who end up quitting diets and canceling plans. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. I find it repulsive that if i'm out with a fat person they decide to order cheeseburgers and fries.. They can play the victim card and blame it on their "genes" or whatever, but there's really no excuse for being fat. If you want to be thin, you will be. You will wake up early in the morning and hit the treadmill and do it consistantly. All they want to do is whine about how "hard" diets are.. well newsflash.. .if diets were easy everyone would be doing them. Nobody said it was going to be easy! Why are fat people so lazy.. it's not just being "fat".. its about how discusting emotionally these people are.. how weak they are to sacrifice their health over a stupid little cheeseburger "addiction" how weak they are to not love themselves enough to know they are worth it. When a person truely loves themselves, they take care of themselves. I don't believe fat people are beautiful!
    • ANSWER:
Because they like looking like repugnant fat bastards. Believe it or not, some actually like looking like a whale waiting to be harpooned.
Anyone slender or svelte (gracefully slender) just looks anorexic to them.

    • ANSWER:
Most experts say eating a balanced diet is the best way to get your
share of good food for healthy skin. Still, a number of specific skin
treats are more likely than others to give a boost of glowing good
      health to your complexion.
Low-Fat Dairy Products. One the most important components of skin
health is vitamin A. One of the best places to get it is low-fat dairy
products. In fact, experts say that the health of our skin cells is
      dependent on dietary vitamin A.
Blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, and plums. The common link
between these four foods is their high antioxidant content.
Salmon, Walnuts, Canola Oil, and Flax Seed. These seemingly unrelated
foods all deliver essential fatty acids, and thus are key foods for
      healthy skin.
Healthy Oils. These contain more than essential fatty acids. Eating
good-quality oils helps keep skin lubricated and keeps it looking and
feeling healthier overall. Included olive oil, sunflower seed oil,
      walnut oil.
Whole-wheat bread, muffins, and cereals; turkey, tuna and brazil
nuts. The mineral selenium connects all these foods for healthy skin.
Experts say selenium plays a key role in the health of skin cells.
Some studies show that even skin damaged by the sun may suffer fewer
consequences if selenium levels are high.
Green Tea. Green tea can reduce the risk of damage from ultraviolet light (such
as the burning rays of the sun), and thus reduce the risk of skin
      cancer.
Food in itself is not a cure for any skin problem, so you have to use
topical creams and lotions to improve your skin, as well as having
      healthy diet.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
I suffer now and then from constipation, Suggestions for herbal or home remedies for constipation pain?
    • ANSWER:
First make sure you are eating a healthy diet with plenty of fiber. Oatmeal or oat bran is great because it is a soluble fiber and helps keep the system clear of cholesterol as well.
You also want to make sure you have sufficient good bacteria - eating live culture yogurt (not all brands have live culture so check the labels) is very good. You also might want to avoid other dairy products for a while and see if that is part of the problem.
And, of course, plenty of fruits and vegetables.
If you are eating a high fiber diet and still experiencing constipation - you may not be drinking enough water. Try drinking it warm rather than cold to keep the bowels from tightening.
If all else fails there is an herb called cascara sagrada that works very well but you may experience cramping. You can find it in capsule form.
  2. QUESTION:
Anyone have any good home remedies for a child with adhd?
My son has ADHD and I dont like giving him drugs any herbal remedies or home remedies anyone knows of???
    • ANSWER:
I have ADHD and I work with children who have it as well. It really depends on the severity of it. If it isn't too severe, then being consistant with discipline and providing boundries and monitoring how much sugar and caffeine he/she takes may be enough. I grew up taking Ritalin and now I am on Strattera (which is far better). I use Strattera only when I am going to college so I can have the "edge" that others do. I have found that I can control my ADHD myself on a pretty normal basis, but consistancy in my life is the important key. Drugs aren't for everyone, but when your a kid and hardly know what the word control means much less how to do it, drugs can be a great help not a hinderance. Also, having your child talk with a psychologist (one that either has ADHD themselves or have children with it) can be effective. One more thing, if you are lookiing to try an herbal remedy...try RELIV. I have found that it helps in focusing and total wellbeing of not just ADHD, but every part of the body. Good luck!
  3. QUESTION:
when you apply herbal remedies at home what would you be care off?
    • ANSWER:
      Inoka,
The only problem with your first answer is most herbalists have been practicing doctors for centuries. Modern medicine and pharmaceutical drugs have not even been around for the last 100 years yet. So going to a "real doctor", as the other person suggested, means seeing the herbalist.
As for your question, you do not give enough information in your question for me to answer it completely. Although using many herbs will be safe for many situations, this is not all inclusive. There is some situations an herb can react negatively with medications you are currently taking. There is also some conditions where some herbs will have no effect whatsoever on your problem.
If your condition is serious, you must talk to a herbalist to guarantee your safety. If your condition is more a "nuisance problem" (like acne, a small rash, poison ivy etc.), then since you do not seem sure of yourself or your remedy, check with your local library. There is a lot of good books in a library which give excellent information about herbs.
I do work a lot with people daily in regards to food allergies and different forms of alternative medicine. If you would like to check out my website, it can give you a little background information on some home remedies, different therapies etc., but remember most of this information does relate to allergies.
  4. QUESTION:

  5. QUESTION:

As once surgery was done but again I do not want to get it done
    • ANSWER:
As you have said that once surgery was done and you do not want to go through it again so
what does it teach you??? Dump the modern doctor and go for a good homeopath in your area
and have it treated. Do not listen to people who haven't even studied it and do not know
anything about homeopathy. In this particular case the usual homeopathic remedy is
KALI MUR30X and SILICEA30X though i would prefer you consult a genuine homeopathic
doctor in your area. By the way just ignore the uneducated and ignorant nuts on this forum.
Good luck and God bless. Cheers! :o)

How To Cure Heart Problems

Is cardiovascular disease curable antihypertensive atenolol (Tenormin)

Various cardiovascular diseases like hypertension, coronary heart disease, arrhythmias and angina (chest pain) can be cured efficiently with atenolol mediciation. It is also used to treat and reduce the risk of heart complications following myocardial infarction (heart attack).

Atenolol is a beta blocker that selectively blocks beta1-adrenergic (myocardial) receptors. It decreases cardiac output, peripheral resistance, and myocardial oxygen consumption. It also depresses renin secretion without affecting beta2-adrenergic (pulmonary, vascular, uterine) receptors. It helps to reduce and treat risk of myocardial infarction (Heart attack). It is also used in Grave's disease, a condition of enlarged thyroid also known as Goiter.

Atenolol helps to regulate heart rate or arrhythmia. Arrhythmia is an abnormality in the heart's rhythm or heartbeat pattern. The heartbeat can be too slow, too fast, have extra beats, skip a beat, or otherwise beat irregularly. This drug works by slowing down the heart and reducing its workload to improve blood flow and decrease blood pressure. It does not pass through the blood-brain barrier thus it is used in the treatment to avoid various central nervous system side effects. This medicine is excreted almost exclusively by the kidneys, which makes it attractive for use in individuals with end-stage liver disease. If it alone fails to control arterial hypertension, the drug can be combined with a diuretic.

Cardiovascular diseases or heart disease is a disease of the heart or blood vessels (arteries and veins). This disease is the leading cause of death. The studies indicate that vascular injury accumulates from adolescence and by the time that heart problems are detected, the underlying cause (atherosclerosis) is usually quite advanced, having progressed for decades. The process of atherosclerosis evolves over decades, and begins as early as childhood. Primary prevention is thus needed to curb the risk of cardiovascular disease. Primary prevention starts with education and awareness of its harmful effects and measures of prevention should be given importance.

Some of the cardiovascular disease includes atherosclerosis, myocardiopathy, rheumatic heart disease, syphilitic endocarditis, and systemic venous hypertension. There are different specialists for different organs to treat this disease viz cardiologist, thoracic surgeons, vascular surgeons, neurologists, and interventional radiologists as treatment depends on the organ that is to be treated.

Diet plays an important role in your body, and thus you should give up all bad eating habit. Studies have revealed a link between fast food and an increase in heart disease. To improve or prevent atherosclerosis include diet high in fibers from vegetables while low in fat and cholesterol, stay away from tobacco and avoid second-hand smoke, decreased alcohol consumption, manage diabetes strictly, decrease BMI if overweight or obese, increase daily activity to 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise, and decrease emotional stress.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
how to cure a heart problem called ectopic heart beats?
i have a condition called ectopic heart.beat which means i sometimes have extra beats -i would like to no if anyone knows of a certain food that i could eat to help it or foods i should not eat or any other ideas-thanks-david
    • ANSWER:
      Hi David,
I have had ectopic heart bears for over 20 years. I know that they are most disconcerting. As long as you have seen a doctor about these, and have had the beats diagnosed as benign, there is nothing to worry about as I understand it.
However, I do still feel fear. I guess we just have to live with it. I have read that caffeine, nicotine and any other stimulates in foods ,may make ectopic beats worsen. I don't know of any food that you should eat that will help. I walk on a tread mill a lot, and this exercise will usually help with the extra beats.
Stress is another factor, and it is best to try to be unstressed. I guess this is a hard call, when you are stressed about them. I would tell your doctor that you are concerned and ask for some counselling in an effort to try and accept them. I would ask about the exercise as well, you would need to work up to this.
  2. QUESTION:
How to cure problems of the heart....?
I was in a very long relationship (+3). I really saw the future with this person...until I felt that I was getting more hurt than happiness. It's easier said than done...that's for sure. Even though I still love this person with all my heart, I was the one that had to break it off. But I can't seem to put this person behind me even though 2 months since the break up have already passed. What can I do to finally forget about him and move on? How much time does it actually take? He didn't fight for the relationship, so could it be that he never truly loved me enough to make it work?
    WHAT TO DO???
    • ANSWER:
2 months is very little time to forget someone you loved deeply and spent 3 years with.
Although it is hard... take time for yourself. Stop thinking that you need HIM but that it didn't work out... and bla bla bla. Instead... take time for yourself... Learn from this relationship. What was good, what was bad.... what do you want from life, from a partner, for yourself, how do you want him to make you feel. There is no better time to be selfish than after a breakup. Healing is long... and no one can give you a specific time delay... it will take the time it takes.
Now... you take your time.. if he didn't fight for you... and you wanted him to... then he is not the right one! Focus on yourself... on rebuilding the independent and confident woman in you. Know what you want and what you don't want in a man. After a while... you will be able to make peace with it... and you will have grown a little more.
If you were getting more hurt than happiness... you did good. There is no doubt. You listened to yourself and you have to keep doing this.
      Be strong!

  4. QUESTION:
How do I cure chronic lateness and could it be due to some underlying medical problems?
I'm a 26-year old male, and I think I'm getting too old to cure the problem of me always being late for work. I have been late most of my life starting when I was in high school. I've been at the same job for 10 years, which I've been fortunate enough to keep my job for that long considering I'm late most of the time. I have a good group of co workers and respect my boss, who I've been working with all of them for that long. I know some of my co workers don't like the fact that I'm always late, and they are my good friends too, and I don't mean any dis respect at all, but I'm not a morning person and hardly ever on time. I only arrive to work 5 minutes late mostly, sometimes 10, but that is still being late. I think the only reason why I haven't been fired is because I always show up, I work for people when they need off, I do what I'm told without arguing, I help people out, and I care about doing a good job and my work. There is still me being late for things. I never give excuses, and I just tell my co workers I'm sorry, but I really think there is a reason behind my habitual lateness, but I don't want to use that as an excuse to make it okay for me to be late. I've tried setting several alarm clocks, leaving them across the room from my bed, going to bed at a decent hour, but nothing seems to work. I've taken some of the advice from my co workers on how to be on time, but that hasn't helped either. Now, I don't want to blame my lateness on medical reasons, but that's the only thing I can think of. Last February, I had surgery to repair to rare heart conditions that I was born with, and those were discovered only a year ago after 25 years of my life. I had a hole in my heart, which the doctors had to plug up. I'm fully recovered now from last February, but do you think my heart problems caused me to be more tired and cause me to have difficulties waking up in the morning all of these years? I know my co workers may not view this as a reason, even though they knew about my surgery and wanted the best recovery for me. You would think since last february, with my heart being back to normal now, I could get to work on time, but no. Also, I have recently been prescribed ritalin by the doctor because I lose focus a lot and zone out at times, and he thinks I might have add, which I do to, and you would think that would cure my lateness. Does medical problems have anything to do with me always being late for work or school most of my life? Any info will be helpful. I know I have pissed my co workers off, who are good friends of mine, because they are always on time, so why can't I be?
    • ANSWER:
I have to say that if he did not want to work he would not have had the same job for 10 years. I wish there was a cure for people to read an entire question before answering.

  6. QUESTION:
How to strengthen the heart or prevent myself from shock?
I have heart problem after a few shock which happen few years ago. I jump when I hear sudden loud sound and my heart really hurts. Any cure or remedies can help me from being too sensitive to sound?
    • ANSWER:
Were those physical shocks or an emotional shock that left you with a kind of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? Or did you have heart problems, went into cardiac arrest, and the shock paddles had to be used?
I can understand why sudden loud sounds make you jump; I'm like that as well. I'm very sensitive to sound and have had to uproot myself and move several times over the past 10 years because of excessively noisy neighbors or loud traffic (boom cars, loud motorcycles, loud aftermarket exhaust systems on autos and motorcycles).
To strengthen your heart you need to exercise daily. Even walking 1/2 an hour a day helps. It also helps you deal with the stress of excessive noise exposure your body has to endure every day. There is something called "EMDR" (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) therapy that is used for people who have suffered Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Usually psychologists and / or psychiatrists facilitate the therapy.
  7. QUESTION:
    i'm having heart problems..will i need a pacemaker?
my doctor said i might have premature ventricular tachycardia. i get random heart palpitations followed by shortness of breath. some are worse than others and it occurs at the most unexpected times.i cut out soda and caffeine and it didn't seem to make a difference.and its not particular followed by exercise, sometimes it is though.
anyway, does this mean i might need a pacemaker? can prescription drugs cure it? or keep it under control? how serious can it be?
sorry my doctor was my cardiologist*
    • ANSWER:
Premature Ventricular Contractions (PVCs) - a condition in which an electrical signal originates in the ventricles and causes the ventricles to contract before receiving the electrical signal from the atria. PVCs are not uncommon and often do not cause symptoms or problems. However, if the frequency of the PVCs increases to several per minute, symptoms such as weakness, fatigue, dizziness, fainting, or palpitations may be experienced.
What are the treatments for premature ventricular contractions?
The reasons for treating premature ventricular contractions are 1) to relieve symptoms of palpitation, 2) to treat conditions that cause PVCs since many conditions that cause PVCs are potentially life threatening, and 3) to prevent ventricular tachycardia and sudden death.
In healthy individuals without heart diseases, premature ventricular contractions need no treatment. For relief of palpitations, one may consider the following measures:
      Stop alcohol and caffeine intake
Stop over-the-counter nasal decongestants that may contain adrenaline like medications such as pseudoephedrine
Stop drug abuse such as amphetamines, cocaine
      Stop cigarette smoking
Conditions that can cause premature ventricular contractions can also be potentiality life threatening. These conditions are often treated in the hospital-monitored beds. Monitored beds are beds (or rooms) that are equipped to record the patients' heart rhythm continuously. Patients are also given intravenous medications. These conditions are:
Low potassium or magnesium levels (hypokalemia and hypomagnesemia) - potassium and magnesium can be given intravenously
Digoxin and aminophylline toxicity - medications can be given to counteract drug toxicity
Acute heart attack - medications and procedures (coronary angiogram and PTCA) are performed urgently to open blocked coronary arteries to restore blood supply to the heart muscle (for more, please read the Heart Attack article).
Low blood oxygen levels (hypoxia) - oxygen can be given nasally, and medications can be given to treat the underlying lung diseases
      Anti-arrhythmia medications
Anti-arrhythmia medications are used to control PVCs with the goal of preventing ventricular tachycardias and ventricular fibrillations and sudden death. Examples of anti-arrhythmia medications include beta-blockers, lidocaine, procainamide, and amiodarone. Unfortunately, there is little scientific evidence that suppressing PVCs with anti-arrhythmic medications prevent ventricular tachycardias and ventricular fibrillations and sudden death. Some anti-arrhythmia medications actually can cause abnormal heart rhythms. Thus anti-arrhythmic medications are only prescribed cautiously in patients at high risk of developing ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation.
      Beta blockers
Beta blockers such as propranolol (Inderal), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), and atenolol (Tenormin) usually are given early during a heart attack and are continued long-term. Beta blockers antagonize the action of adrenaline and relieve stress on the muscles of the heart. Beta blockers decrease the workload of the heart by slowing the heart rate and decreasing the force of contraction of heart muscle. Decreasing the workload decreases the demand for oxygen by the heart and limits the amount of damage to the heart muscle. Long-term administration of beta blockers following a heart attack has been shown to improve survival and reduce the risk of future heart attacks. Beta blockers also improve survival among patients with heart attacks by decreasing the incidence of life-threatening abnormal heart rhythms, for example, ventricular fibrillation. Beta blockers can be given intravenously in the hospital and then can be taken orally for long-term treatment.
The side effects of beta blockers are wheezing (worsening of breathing in patients with asthma), abnormally slow heart rate, and exacerbation of heart failure (especially in patients with significant damage to their heart muscle). Nevertheless, in patients with chronic heart failure, beta blockers have recently been demonstrated to be helpful in decreasing symptoms and prolonging life. For more, please read the Beta Blockers article.

    • ANSWER:
Follow the doctors advice. Your father was advised to have surgery. No one on Y!A can examine him or give you a medical opinion thus no one here can offer you specifically what you are looking for. There are no cures for coronary disease, but there are many treatments- none of which are available via the internet. If the surgical option is not palatable, I suggest a second opinion.
Advice offered here is not meant to be a replacement for proper evaluation and examination by a qualified medical professional and should not be construed as such.

Ok I think if this continues and your stressing about it. Then go to a doctor and don't waist your time with a bunch of strangers on here.
  15. QUESTION:
Skipped heart beats and abnormal Rhythem?
For the past year I have been having heart "problems" I get skipped heart beats when I drink A can of Pepsi or any sort of energy drinks. (sometimes it doesn't happen but 80% of the time it does) so I decided to go to a cardiologist. They put a heart monitor on me. For 2 days. During those 2 days I felt skipped heart beat ( or premature ventricular contractions I don't know I can't tell which is which) well I felt it 3 times out of those 2 days I had the heart monitor on. normaly I feel them in Rows of 5-6 but they didn't occur during the time I had the monitor on me. After I returned the monitor they said its nothing to be worried about. But sometimes I will be sitting down watching tv and my heart will go from normal resting heart beat to SUPER fast randomly within 2 seconds I'll feel my heart racing really fast for like 6 seconds then it will go back to a Resting heart beat. I am 18 years old and want to join the Army Infantry. I am afraid to because I am afraid ill drop dead during a 5 mile march or run in basic training. I recently had ectogram (they put a gel on your heart to check all 4 chambers) I do not know if that will tell if I have heart problems or any sort. I personally feel that my heart goes to a normal rhythem then to abnormal rhythem then back into normal. When ever in get my heart checked on its normal. But when I'm at home it goes threw those weird patterns and I am not sure what to do because I want to join the army. I was told that your heart can cause to much electricity and cause these problems. But I don't know how to get the cardiologist to recognized it and cure it. Cause that's the last thing I need is to do a 5 mile run and have my heart go threw tachardiya or what ever it's called. Any suggestions on what I should do or what you think may be the problem? 5 points!
    • ANSWER:
First of all ditch the caffeine and high energy drinks. The former will give you palpitations and the latter will make your heart go all over the place AND they can make you smell (truly!)
I have an irregular heartbeat and have to avoid caffeine totally. It can become worse if I don't eat regularly and the right kind of foods. I also have the loud, fast heartbeat occasionally and can now control it by relaxing, and thinking about lowering it. You'll probably find that it improves dramatically if you avoid caffeine. Here is a site about teenages and irregular heartbeats:

Get well soon and hope you get accepted in the Army.

Natural Cures For Diabetes

Natural Cures For Diabetes - How To Cure Diabetes Naturally

A good diet is the key to good health. While in some cases diabetes is caused due to genetic factors or other triggers, more often than not it is diets rich in sugar that lead to blood sugar problems later in life. Every diet has the scope to be tweaked a little bit so that you can ward off the danger of diabetes. If you are overweight, have high blood pressure, low HDL, and eat a lot of processed foods, you fall in the high-risk category.

Everyone ought to slowly wean themselves off highly processed junk food and shift to leaner, more natural alternatives. You can also use the three natural cures for diabetes tips which are listed below:

Diabetes and magnesium

In a study done in England on 11,000 women in the high-risk category, it was shown that those with a high magnesium intake were 27 per cent less susceptible to diabetes. According to research, magnesium is known to lower blood pressure, relax the heart muscles, and controls homocysteine, which is a known trigger for heart disease and diabetes. Magnesium also catalyzes the enzyme system in the body to convert nutrients into energy. Magnesium also relaxes the muscles and reduces muscle spasms.

Dark green leafy vegetables, nuts, avocados and whole grain are excellent sources of magnesium.

Diabetes and Cinnamon

Research has shown that using cinnamon in your diet on a regular basis helps reduce blood glucose levels by 18-29%. In addition, it also reduces other diabetes risk factors like triglyceride (which shows a 30% decline) and LDL cholesterol (a 25% decrease).

Cinnamon contains an extract called Cinnulin PF. This extract works at the cellular level and increases the sensitivity of insulin cell receptors by three times. Poor response of insulin cell receptors is often a major problem in diabetics, which makes cinnamon an important diabetes inhibitor. TI is advisable to consume about 500mg of cinnamon extract, twice a day.

Glucotor 2-a Diabetics' Formulation

Glucotor 2 is a completely natural formula prepared with the specific needs of diabetics in mind. It contains prickly pear cactus, fenugreek, cinnulin PF, bitter melon and gymnema sylvestre, all of which are very beneficial in diabetes control. Glucotor 2 which follows its very successful predecessor Glucotol 1, has been rendered even more powerful by the addition of cinnulin PF cinnamon extracts. Glucotol 1 has a very illustrious history in battling high blood sugar, with a number of true life testimonies to its credit.

Glucotor 2 only improves on it, as it adds Cinnulin PF and magnesium, both of which are effective in controlling diabetes. Both these components have been proved efficacious not just for blood sugar control, but also in preventing heart disease.

So, while you may have actually tweaked your eating habits to avoid fatty, high processed foods, you should surely also add a daily dose of Glucotor 2 to your diet plan to ensure even better protection against diabetes and cardiovascular problems. And ou need not fear any harmful side effects from Glucotor 2-it is a tried and tested natural remedy that is uses no artificial chemicals in its preparation.

Acid Reflux Attack

Heartburn pain can be mistaken for the pain associated with heart disease or a heart attack but there are specific differences. This article discusses the differences and outlines how Natural Solutions can be used for Heartburn and Acid Reflux.

New E-book Reveals Unique Holistic Strategies to Cure Acid Reflux. Discover How To Quickly And Easily Cure Heartburn Permanently... Even If Everything Else You Tried had Failed... Without Drugs Without Over The Counters and Without Nasty Side Effects Guaranteed!

There are several methods for treating heartburn including natural cures over-the-counter medicines and prescribed medication. The challenge is in finding what works best for you. Before you begin taking heartburn medication it's best to address the cause of your heartburn namely your diet. Monitor what you eat and identify the foods that may be causing heartburn. Food types that typically cause heartburn are fried spicy and citrus in nature. Perhaps a heartburn cure is as simple as changing diet.

Most treatment plans or recommended ways to reduce heartburn include lifestyle changes along with dietary changes. But as always the leading causes of heartburn vary and the best treatment for heartburn varies depending on the individual. Most common is an antacid that can be purchased over the counter from your local pharmacy.

Researchers document that there are at least five easy tips for curing this condition. Implementing the natural home remedies will not be successful without also adopting healthy life-style changes.

Candidiasis can be a pesky infection to treat more so since the pharmaceutical treatment for such includes the use of powerful systemic antifungals. These antifungals may cause side effects that may even rival the illness it was made to treat. However there have been breakthroughs in the treatment of systemic yeast infections that focus on more natural means of treating the illness.

Acid reflux is an inflammation of the esophagus that is caused by the regurgitation of the stomach contents. Another name for it is reflux esophagitis or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The main symptom of acid reflux is heartburn which affects one of every ten adults in the United States each day. Many sufferers hope for natural remedies for acid reflux.

Some people always think of insomnia as the side effect or the symptom. Few however have delved into what insomnia can do to the mind and body. Of course the insomnia sufferer experiences these side effects.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:

Are natural health remedies a cure?
When we feel sick, we expect a cure and a pill. But doctors are looking to integrate more natural remedies into there treatment regimens. So is alternative medicine the cure?
    • ANSWER:

unlike the posters aboves advice, many doctors are including alternative medicine and herbs into their practice and have for years. both my females doctors did..one over 20 years ago and both got a 4.0 in college, are very smart and sensitive to their patients needs. The poster is back in the dark ages saying to change doctors.
Unfortunately few doctors do this and many are afraid to as some have lost their licenses over this as the AMA does not wish to go this way except nominally and only because the consumer is demanding it.
The problem is because we do not believe we create our illnesses due to the decadent lifestyles we live (smoking, drugs, junk foods, too much salt, sugar, lack of exercise, worry, out of control stress and so forth, we expect the doctors to fix us back up with a pill..this requires very potent drugs which often require the use of other drugs and often does more harm than good in the long run.
Much alternative health works by working synergistically to help the body heal itself by stopping the bad habits and starting new ones.
Many people do not want to do this...they want to feel great and live however they want..
Alternative health is a very broad field encompasses many aura and types. some work great, some don't and some work on one part of our health and some work on the whole person.
Herbs are in many cases superior as they are safe and designed to heal our bodies by nature or our creator while drugs are generally non-organic, man made chemicals the body accepts but at harm to it so herbs are safer..Just a tiny handful of people die from herbs while tens of thousands die from drugs and doctor errors etc.
Also drugs create the symptom but herbs go to the root cause that is causing diverse symptoms the doctor calls by various disease names, thus the herb tends to while slower in the long run fix more problems we have than just the one we took it for.
You can expect alternative health to not be as useful for emergency situations like a limb cut off in an accident or something like that but herbs to do better with chronic diseases
You can expect if you know what you are doing and do a comprehensive multi part program combing things like a vegan diet, exercise, detoxing., cleansing the elimination organs, improving water and air, getting sunshine, taking herbs, doing affirmations and stress reduction, hydrotherapy, stopping bad habits, getting counseling or learning to love and be happier, etc all done together in an intense health building program to cure things doctors cannot like AIDS, pancreatic and lung cancers, neurological disease like ms, heart and circulatory problems, diabetes and terminal illnesses.
Yes, natural health can certainly be a cure..that is not to say once in a while you won't maybe need a doctor but most things I have found we can fix ourselves..when we discover we cause many of our illnesses with our lifestyles, we can be empowered to discover that if we can make our self sick by living badly, we can make ourselves better and heal by living good.
Generally, although doctors may be discovering the good things about alternative health and wanting to jump on the consumer bandwagon and thus incorporating alternative health into their stuff is good for them, it is not s good for you or alternative health as allopathic drugs etc can make it harder to recover naturally due to the harm of those things they often use.
IMO there is a place for both..I was in a car wreck a while back and feel in that case I needed doctors but generally I am able to cure myself with herbs etc better with herbs, supplements etc.
what is needed to make herbs and alternative health work better is education, people making their own organic tinctures (or finding a superior tincture supplier) and forgoing herbs in a capsule that are conventionally grown, understanding that herbs and foods work best in a comprehensive health building regime, doing most of their grocery shopping at natural food stores, farmer's markets, from small organic farmers and their own gardens., doing different cleanses one a season, thinking more positively and loving themselves and others better and learning to stop hating and forgive.
this may be more complicated and difficult than going to a doctor and saying doctor heal me with a pill but it gains more long lasting results, saves lots of money and worry and gives us payoffs we can see and be proud of..also for every person who takes better care of themselves, health costs go down

  5. QUESTION:

Natural remedies to cure throat problems?
You know how it feels like your ears are itching but its actually your throat. Well i can't not sleep at night because my ears make my throat feel soo bad.
does anyone know any natural remedies to help treat this?
    • ANSWER:

Itchy throats at night are usually caused by undiagnosed allergies. Try showering and washing your hair as soon as you come in at night. Allergens cling to your hair and then get transferred to your pillow at night. That´s one of the reasons that both your ear and your throat feel itchy. Sore throats can also be caused by acid reflux (heartburn). Also, try drinking chamomile tea with a teaspoon of wild honey about 1 hour before bedtime to soothe your sore throat.
  6. QUESTION:

Are there any natural remedies to cure nervous conditions?
Is ginger tea good to cure a nervous condition ?
    • ANSWER:

More often than not, nervous conditions are based on an emotional issue. To cure it will require getting to the bottom of that. You could start on your own by paying close attention and keeping a record of what is happening around you when it comes on. This should help you identify what might be setting it off.
You can treat the symptoms and make your life easier. I don't think people necessarily respond in the same way to all, so try these and see if you get any improvement:
      - Valerian drops - starts to work in about 20 mins, and taking it regularly has a cummulative effect
      - Passiflora drops - very good for sleep improvement, more of a long-term solution
      - Cammomile tea - very mild effects
      - Deep yogic breathing and meditation - the breathing you can do anywhere, the meditation is immediate and long-term cummulative, best physical activity for helping with the underlying emotional problem.
      Good luck!
  7. QUESTION:

Is there any natural remedies to cure cysts or boils?
I have one in my lower buttox (left cheek) and it's about 3-4" in diameter. It does give me a lot of pain but, is there any remedies or creams I can buy before I ever see a Doc?
I had this for more than a year, however I didn't feel the pain until recently this week. I'm not sure if it's a cyst or a boil or a ingrown hair... all I know it's hard and painful.
    • ANSWER:

Do not squeeze, scratch, drain, open (lance), or puncture the lump. Doing this can irritate or inflame the lump, push any existing infection deeper into the skin, or cause severe bleeding.
Keep the area clean by washing the lump and surrounding skin well with an antibacterial soap.
Apply warm, wet washcloths to the lump for 20 to 30 minutes, 3 to 4 times a day. If you prefer, you can also use a hot water bottle or heating pad over a damp towel. The heat and moisture can soothe the lump, increase blood circulation to the area, and speed healing. It can also bring a lump caused by infection to a head (but it may take 5 to 7 days). Be careful not to burn your skin. Do not use water that is warmer than bath water.
If the lump begins to drain pus, apply a bandage to keep the draining material from spreading. Change the bandage daily. If a large amount of pus drains from the lump, or the lump becomes more red or painful, evaluation by a health professional may be needed.

  12. QUESTION:

Any natural remedies to cure a stomach ache?
Like without pills, and something that is ok for a preteen?
    • ANSWER:

I hope this helps. A lot of problems come from how/what we eat and combine our foods together. Let me explain.
It was the first time I cooked dinner for my then-boyfriend. I didn’t know it back then, but my own cure began with a question from this man who would later become my husband(Mike)
Shortly after we met, I made dinner for him and he asked if it would be alright if he didn't eat one of the foods I had prepared. He said it all looked wonderful, but that the combination would give him a stomach ache. I didn't know what he meant, since nothing was fried and no hot spices were used.
It was then that he asked me the question that literally changed my life forever!
Mike asked me, “Have you heard of food combining?”
My immediate answer was "no" I hadn't heard of it. Even though it wasn't anything new, and had been endorsed by many health experts, peak performance experts and celebrities and more - I really had never heard of FOOD COMBINING.
After hearing about how "mis-combining" leads to acidosis, acid-reflux, heartburn and a host of other digestive problems, I had my first "properly combined" meal...
And I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO SYMPTOMS WHATSOEVER!
      NO PAIN! NOTHING!
      That’s right...
      NO cramps
      NO bloated stomach
      NO excessive gas
      NO ‘IBS’
      NO acid reflux
      NO constipation
      NO running to the bathroom
      NO horrendous pain
Can you imagine how relieved I felt after all those years? If you have ever suffered any of these symptoms, even mildly, you will understand why I was wild with joy!

  15. QUESTION:

Has any woman tried natural remedies to cure low sex drive?
I have heard there are several natural herbs or what ever to help with no sex drive in woman
Has anyone really had any luck with these products and what are the names
I know this is a personal subject but any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks
    • ANSWER:

One common problem that happens is this. I have been there and done that. You have to figure out what it is first that is destroying your sex drive. If your on medication like birth control or anti-depressants that is something to think about and do research on. Other then that it could just be stress, maybe the kids, really anything that makes your life stressful can do this and lower the libido.
One thing I tried that seemed to work while I was doing it was exercising. I just felt sexier doing it which kind of boosted my libido. However it wasn't the best solution for me. My friend told me about these herbal enhancers that are made from natural herbs and don't cause any side effects besides having wild sex. She said it's the female version of viagra. I had to find out.
I would always have a weak orgasm too (if I had one at all), which after trying this sex enhancer, it boosted them tremendously. I don't get multiple orgasms but I've had plenty since being on these herbs. It's seriously like the best vibrator ride you've ever experienced. These things make me horny all the time, some days I don't even take them because the urge is just too strong.
Don't try out single herbs because they don't do it like the blend of herbs these scientists and researchers pick out. I've tried a couple of them by itself and they did crap. The stuff that I'm on is called Hersolution, at the time I saved money on it at herenhancement.com . Make sure you get the 3 month supply that way you fall under the guarantee/return policy if the herbs don't work for you, you can return them with no questions ask. I bet they will work though and you won't have any problems. Also if your on medication of any sort, check out the gel because if your like me, you wouldn't want to swallow any thing that might react with the medications your already on.
Well have a good day and hopefully you solved your problem.

  17. QUESTION:

What are some natural remedies to cure insomnia?
-not looking to take any meds
    • ANSWER:

Treatment for insomnia focuses on the reason why you don't sleep well. If you have a medical problem, such as chronic pain, or an emotional problem, such as stress, treating that problem may help you sleep better. You may be able to sleep better by making some small changes. It may help to:
      * Go to bed at the same time each night.
      * Get up at the same time each day.
      * Avoid caffeine or alcohol for several hours before bedtime.
      * Get regular exercise. But make sure you finish the exercise at least 4 hours before you go to bed.
      * Avoid daytime naps.
Some people may need medicine for a while to help them fall asleep. Doctors often prescribe medicine for a short time if other treatment isn't working. But medicine doesn't work as well over time as do lifestyle and behavior changes.3 Sleep medicine can also become habit-forming. Medicine works best as a short-term treatment combined with lifestyle and behavior changes.
Your doctor may also recommend counseling, which can help you learn new habits that may help you sleep better.
Talk to your doctor about your sleep problems and any other health issues you may have. This is important, because lack of sleep can lead to depression, accidents, problems at work, marital and social problems, drinking more alcohol than usual, and poor health. Treatment may help you avoid these problems and feel better.
  18. QUESTION:

are there any medications or natural remedies to cure kienbocks disease?
my husband has kienbocks disease which affects the tendons in his wrists and causing him severe pain. I want to find something to help him.
    • ANSWER:

Although there is no cure, there are several nonsurgical and surgical options for treating this disease. The goals of treatment are to relieve the pressure on the lunate and to try to restore blood flow within the bone.
      Nonsurgical Treatment
The wrist may be splinted or casted for two to three weeks. Anti-inflammatory medications, such as aspirin or ibuprofen, will help relieve any pain and reduce swelling. If the pain continues, your physician may refer you to an orthopaedic or hand surgeon for further evaluation.
      Surgical Options
There are several surgical options for treating the more-advanced stages of Kienböck's disease. The choice of procedure will depend on several factors, including disease progression, activity level, personal goals, and the surgeon's experience with the procedures.
In some cases, it may be possible to return the blood supply to the bone (revascularization). This procedure takes portion of bone (graft) from the inner bone of the lower arm. A metal device (an external fixator) may be used to relieve pressure on the lunate and preserve the spacing between bones.
If the bones of the lower arm are uneven in length, a joint leveling procedure may be recommended. Bones can be made longer using bone grafts or shortened by removing a section of the bone. This leveling procedure reduces the forces that bear down on (compress) the lunate and seems to halt progression of the disease.
If the lunate is severely collapsed or fragmented into pieces, it can be removed. In this procedure, the two bones on either side of the lunate are also removed. This procedure, called a proximal row carpectomy, will relieve pain while maintaining partial wrist motion.
Another procedure that eases pressure on the bone is fusion. In this procedure, several of the small bones of the hand are fused together. If the disease has progressed to severe arthritis of the wrist, fusing the bones will reduce pain and help maintain function. The range of wrist motion, however, will be limited.
Do not hesitate to discuss these options with your orthopaedic or hand surgeon.
  19. QUESTION:

Are there any natural cure/remedies for epilepsy?
    • ANSWER:

The aim of treatment in epilepsy is to keep the patient seizure free and side effect free; however this is not always an easy goal to achieve. There are many different anti-epileptic drugs that work in different ways and have different side effects. In addition different prescription medications will work better for certain conditions and what works for one person may not work for another.
This usually results in a rather ‘hit and miss’ technique of trying to find a medication that works for each person and may involve a number of different dosages, drugs or combinations of drugs being tried. Unfortunately this can still leave you experiencing not only your seizures but also a variety of different side effects.
It is very important that you speak to your doctor and find out all that you can about your condition and the medication prescribed – remember there is no such thing as a stupid question! If your doctor is finding it difficult to find a treatment regime that controls your seizures you may be referred to a specialist, either a neurologist or an epileptologist, who would suggest further alternatives.
There are a number of other treatment modalities that are sometimes used in unusual cases and these include surgical procedures, neural stimulation and special diets. Alternative therapies such as acupuncture and chiropractic therapy can be very effective in the management of epilepsy so find out all you can about the different options available to you.
      Natural Remedies
Epilepsy is not a new disease and has existed for centuries. There are many natural ingredients that have been successfully used by past generations in the management of this condition and they are still available to us. Passiflora and Scullcap have been traditionally used to soothe the nervous system and maintain normal levels of brain stimulation.
The stress relieving properties of these ingredients provide an added and necessary benefit in the pressurised 21st century world in which we live. There are also many homeopathic remedies such as Cuprum metallicum and Cicuta verosa that have proven to be of benefit in seizure disorders.
There are also three biochemic cellular-supporting tissue salts which may be taken at the first signs frazzled nerves and imbalanced moods for effective, temporary help.
Natural remedies have been used for centuries to support the health of the brain and nervous system and provide a safe and effective way of maintaining wellness without the risk of side effects or toxic damage to the liver.

  23. QUESTION:

What are some natural cures/ remedies for ovarian cysts?
I have an ovarian cyst on my right ovary and it's become extremely painful.
I went to the emergency room ( as I have no health insurance) and the doctors told me
they couldn't do anything for me.
Is there a way to cure it? I fear that it will rupture, plus I'm having extremely heavy bleeding (menstrual) it's been this way since January.
    • ANSWER:

Well I'm no doctor but I do take human cellular biology in university so what I'm about to tell you probably means nothing but it's worth a try. The cyst is swelling and the pain is caused by inflammation of the soft tissue surrounding the cyst, namely, the ovarian wall. What you need is a combination analgesic and anti-inflammatory medicine. Try these in this order from weakest to strongest:
Don't bother with brand names, get whatever has the drug in it that costs less because they're all the same. To help with that, I'm going to post their generic names with brand names in parenthesis in case there is no generic in the USA. Take the maximum dose that the bottles allow and if there is an extra-strength version, get it.
      1. ASA (Aspirin) - least expensive
      2. Ibuprofen (Advil, Nuprin) - moderate
      3. Naproxen Sodium (Alleve) - most expensive
If those three fail, ask your doctor if he/she will prescribe you Ketoprofen.
These drugs should reduce the swelling caused by inflammation as well as eradicating the pain. You might want to not take the ASA until your period is over because it is a natural blood-thinner and the last thing you want is to bleed more. Get them at Costco if you can because they have amazing prices on meds like that and I know for a fact that they have their own generic versions of both ASA and Ibuprofen that cost less than 1/3 what the brand-name crap costs and I can personally attest to their effectiveness (Especially the Ibuprofen) because I used them for both Mononucleosis and the pain I was in after all my wisdom teeth were extracted. (Apparently, there were complications)
This is an idea for a remedy, I have no clue about curing them. I don't really know much about Ovarian Cysts (being male and all...lol) and being Canadian, I have no idea what surgery costs. I do know that you pay triple what I do for prescription medicine but I don't know what you pay for off-the-shelf or over-the-counter medicine. As a result, I listed the drugs from cheapest to most expensive. Try them in that order and you're guaranteed not to pay more than you need to. If I were you, I'd take a vacation to the UK. They've been known to treat non-Britons in need.
